A “Slow Food” Day

Piacenza to Fiorenzuola, supposed to be 32km, ended up being 5km. Sun, clouds, and wind later on. Today we left the region of Piedmont and entered Emilia-Romangna, the land of gran padano.

We never intended doing 32km but we did intend to take a train or a bus to Pontenure, 10km towards Fiorenzuola but the only transportation was early early, before breakfast or after 1pm. We would still have had to walk 22 km which would have been too much to do starting after 1pm.

In addition, yesterday was a bit of a tough day. Missing the ferry put us behind schedule in terms of starting our walk and we had to do an additional 10km. So we pushed ourselves too much. The result? We were tired of course but Mike developed a blister. Normally we take off shoes to let socks and feet dry out at least once a day, more with longer distances. We neglected doing that – another lesson re-learned.

We turned to the train….from Piacenza…

…to Fiorenzuola…a 12 minute ride

It was noon so we stopped at Mama Mia’s for lunch and then wandered our way to our accommodation which is at….

…another agritourisme accommodation.

Here are a few pics of our arrival to this beautiful property with a few artistic ones thrown in.

The best of all was this tree….looked a bit like wisteria but not sure…with car and without…

And then … dinner… great but way too late. By 9:00pm we were still waiting for the last course so we skipped it and headed to bed.
