Torrential Rain, Flooding & Roads Closed

Massa to Camaiore. No walking today!

Thank heavens our hostess in Massa was very emphatic in advising us to take the luggage taxi to Pietrasanta and then the train to our next location, Camaiore. At first, we thought we’d made the wrong decision. It wasn’t raining in Pietrasanta initially so we had a short window of walking around Pietrasanta, an artist’s community.

Soon enough it started to rain, and for the rest of the day, both in Pietrasanta and Camaiore, we had on and off torrential rain. So, where do you go when it rains? The church, of course, and this one was a beautiful cathedral, the cathedral of Saint Martin.

And next, the small church of Sant’Antonio with large frescoes and a most beautiful statue.

Next, to the Museo de Bozzetti ( the Museum of Maquettes). Zoom in for a better explanation than I can give…kind of like thumbnail sketches for drawers and painters but for sculptors.

When it rained so hard that even our ponchos wouldn’t keep us dry, we headed to the nearest bar.

There we waited for the bus to Camaiore.

Tomorrow…Lucca by bus!!
