A Slight Hiccup

Day 33: Sunday, San Gimignano to Colle Val D’Elsa, 0 km, took a 60 euro taxi (it was a Sunday after all, no room for us in the luggage taxi!)

We’d arrived in San Gimignano on Saturday afternoon, followed the usual routine of settling in and headed out for a drink at the neighboring bar. Not sure if I mentioned this before but whenever you order a drink, you get snacks. In this case we got chips and 2 skewers, each one having a chunk of bread, a piece of cheese wrapped with zucchini, and a small thin slice of salami. I go into detail here because we suspect it was the salami that did it. By 8:30 that evening Mike was suffering intensely, all the symptoms of food poisoning and they continued until 8:30 the next morning. Mike is way more “gut sensitive” than I. Regardless, neither of us slept that night.

S Capes, our travel service, arranged for a taxi for us, and also called the hotel where we were headed to, to make arrangements for us to check in early. Got there by 12am and slept the rest of the day and night away.

We only woke at 7:30 waking only for me to have some soup and Mike some tea.

My soup….so pretty.

The only good thing about the day was meeting Prue and Heather from Australia.

Day 34: Monday, Colle Val D’Elsa to Monteriggioni, 9 km, sunny and beautiful.

This morning we met with Heather and Prue who, after hearing about Mike’s plight, volunteered some immodium tablets, bless them!!! Resting every kilometer and a half, we made it to our stay for the night, the fabulous Il Piccolo Castello, on the outskirts of Monteriggioni.

The good news is we’re both feeling better and ready for a longer walk tomorrow.
