Where you’ve had rain, expect mud!
Day 40: Castiglione d’Orcia to Radicofani, 25 km, last day in Tuscany. Cool, mostly overcast but with sunny breaks in the afternoon.
Leaving our lovely B&B, a last look at the castle in the morning light…and a nice breakfast.

A few scenes from today. The first part was great, all downhill of course and on quiet gravel roads. But then we had to leave and head off on a different path through farmers’ fields. That’s where the mud started….and…..the creeks and rivers to ford. I must have walked half the day with soaking wet feet. Thank heavens for “Darn Tough” wool socks. I was comfortable the whole way.

And then, who should we run into, having a rest at a picnic table on the path? Marilyn and Paul from Ottawa. We walked with them the rest of the way to Agriturismo Selvella, a most fabulous place.

When we arrived, our hostess was busy so she suggested we find a place to sit. The dogs refused to move lol. Dinner wasn’t until 8 but oh so good.

Funny incident: usually I don’t wash my dirty girl gaiters but after all the mud, I did. When it came time to wrap them and the rest of my wash in a towel to wring them a bit drier, I was missing one of my gaiters! We must have spent an hour looking everywhere. Finally, Mike looked down the sink drain. There it was-got sucked in when I pulled the plug. After a variety of attempts to extract it without taking the plumbing apart, I was able to borrow some long tweezers/forceps from our hostess (who was suitably horrified) and…voila….problem solved.
Sooo, what kind of mud is it? Good for facials? Clay, slippery gumbo that makes you taller with every step? How many pairs of shoes did you bring?

The kind that makes you taller with every step!!!! Lifted my foot….there were inches of mud!!! The next morning, drying out my shoes with the hair dryer, a pill bug crawled out. Not sure how long he hitched a ride for😂😂
