A Little Rain, A Little Rainbow, A Little Sun, Some Puddles

Day 42: Acqupendente to Bolsena, 22 km, overcast for the first 12km, then rain.

Leaving Acquapendente this morning…

The scenery has totally changed…flat, farmland, easy walking.

A little rain shower, a brief rainbow, the first of several puddles…

Lovely walking terrain…

At the 12 km mark we stopped for coffee…

We were tired, had a poor breakfast, and it started to rain harder. So we took a bus the rest of the way to Bolsena. Glad we did as it didn’t let up.

When we left Radicofani a few days ago, we started with a transfer from our Agriturismo accommodation to Acquapendente. Once we arrived at the drop off point, we got to chatting briefly with our driver about how we’d be leaving Tuscany and entering Lazio. He said, “Here in Toscana, we compare it to entering Africa!” We chose to interpret that as a comment on the change in landscapes as we had read in our book that, “…the descent towards the Val Di Paglia is one of the wildest, most solitary stretches on the Via. The orderly landscape of the Tuscan countryside gives way to harsher, steeper slopes used as pastureland, with low scrubland…”

Tomorrow we are headed to Montefiascone but the weather forecast isn’t encouraging…2 inches of rain expected. It matters be another bus day…we shall see.
