Day 45: Viterbo to Vetralla, 17 km. 68 km to Roma, 4 more days of walking/training/bussing.

Well! We started, fully intending to walk. It was raining lightly so we put up our umbrellas. Found the starting point of the Via and a coffee place at the same time. Coffee at the B&B had been lukewarm and we wanted HOT! So we stopped.
Started again and before we knew it, there was a downpour. So much for umbrellas…we pulled out our ponchos, determined to walk. Then the thunder and lightning started. We took shelter…where else but in a church…outside the church as the doors were locked.

Started to think about the terrain we’d be crossing. Our info had alerted us to streams to be crossed. Mike checked his weather app which showed more storm weather moving right across where we were. We decided to take a train today.
Found another church, very lovely where we sat for a while…

A lovely woman came into the church and…after a while, suggested we might like to go to the Museo Nazionale Etrusco Di Viterbo-something to do in all the rain. It was relatively close to the train station where we were headed. By the time we got to the train station we were pretty wet so we passed on the museum, (it was another 2 km away) choosing a coffee instead.
My Michael loves the European trains, as do I. When he saw there was a train from Viterbo to Vetralla, he jumped to buy the tickets online. While we waited for the train, he discovered that there’s more than one train station in Vetralla. The train we were scheduled to take required a 4 km walk to our accommodation. We thought, “ no problem! We could use the exercise.” As it turned out, the thunderstorms followed us to Vetralla.

Couldn’t check in to our B &B until 3 so found a wonderful trattoria where we had lunch and dried out, accompanied by a quarter liter of red wine, (big glasses for drinking wine, small ones for sipping water lol.)

Arrived at our B&B….

Went for an evening stroll around Vetralla…

And now, we’re in for the night.
Oh good lord! I’m thinking there’s no way I’d be up for walking in that mess! I’d opt for another night in B&B and wait for the rain to pass! You’re of sturdier stock than I am, lol!
Yes, I would have preferred to do th
