Day 46: Vetralla to Sutri, 24.5 km, another bus day. It rained so hard and so steadily yesterday, we were reluctant to face the walking terrain. On the All-trails app, you can see where you will be walking….in this case, mostly through a hazelnut plantation followed by a gorge (with warnings about flooding and detours). But so far, the sun is shining so we plan to explore Parco Naturale Regionale Sutri as well as a castle/fortress structure, and other highlights. We shall see what the day brings.
It was a good day. Arrived in Sutri around 11-ish….why are all the towns and villages we stay at perched on top of mountains? Strategic defense Mike said. The centers are all in the oldest part of the city.

Wandered through the streets locating our B&B…

Checked out the park….there was an old amphitheater (you had to pay 5 euros to enter when everything was visible from outside), tried to walk around the park trails but too many huge puddles (we’re pretty fed up with that), wandered back, past the necropolis burial places, into town for lunch (to waste some time waiting for our B&B check in time at 2:00). Lunch was fabulous!

Checked into our B&B, relaxed for a bit, then went to do some much needed laundry. By that time, it was happy hour so off we went again only to meet Fred from the Netherlands and Jaan from Belgium. We sat together. When asked about the walk today they said it wasn’t too bad. Jaan got only wet feet but Fred’s stick broke as he was fording the stream and he fell in!!! Happy we took the bus today!!!!
