Berceto to Pontremoli, rode with the innkeeper.
Yesterday, at breakfast we met Marilyn and Paul from Ottawa, Canada. Compatriots! No sooner did we introduce ourselves than Paul said, “Canada, EH?” We laughed and all agreed we didn’t use “Eh” very often. As we gathered around the breakfast table, someone was heard to say, “Eh?” and we all had a good chuckle.

They too had decided to take a ride over the pass and into Pontremoli. It was a good decision. It poured rain. As we drove the twisty turns route from Berceto to Pontremoli, we saw a number of pilgrims, all on the road in their rain ponchos, battling the elements, Brian included!!

Ilaria drove us right up to our new B&B so we would know where it is and then dropped us, still in the pouring rain near the center. We quickly donned ponchos and made our way to the nearest cafe, which was crowded with people escaping the rain. We sat for a long time.

Next stop, the duomo, a good place to be when it’s raining. Here’s a few pics…

Finally, we said our good-byes, promising to meet up somewhere on the way to Rome, and set off back to our B&B.

Spent the afternoon very contentedly reading, only heading back out for a drink and dinner. It was not very satisfying. Decided to try something traditional which turned out to be a kind of Parmesan pancake. But the red wine was tasty!
